Newly published Scottish Government food and drink statistics reveal a landmark achievement: the sector has reached a record £19billion in turnover, securing its place as Scotland’s third-largest industry by value.
Welcoming the news, Iain Baxter, CEO of Scotland Food & Drink, noted: “Food and drink remains one of our greatest success stories.”
Nowhere is that more evident than right here in the North-east.
The North-east continues to drive national growth, powering Scotland’s food and drink success:
- Highest proportion of food, drink and agri employment in the country
- 20% of Scotland’s total food and drink output is produced in our region
- A thriving ecosystem of food, drink, agri and seafood businesses generating £2.4billion in annual turnover, with products enjoyed around the world
At the centre of this is ONE SeedPod — Scotland’s food and drink innovation hub designed to accelerate the next generation of ambitious producers.
As Alan Thorpe, director of ONE Food, Drink & Agriculture, explains: “ONE SeedPod will further drive the growth of Scotland’s food and drink businesses. It brings together food-safe manufacturing kitchens, new product development, plant process and demonstration kitchens, along with in-house experts, in one vibrant and empowering community. This is where ambitious food and drink companies come to innovate and grow faster.”
The North-east has long been a powerhouse of world-class produce. With ONE SeedPod, the region is primed not just to contribute to Scotland’s success story — but to shape the future of the industry itself.
