Scottish justice secretary Angela Constance has been found to have breached the ministerial code of conduct in relation to grooming gang comments made in parliament.
The SNP minister misrepresented the position of Professor Alexis Jay on public inquiries into child sexual abuse and exploitation.
But although an investigation found Constance had breached the code, it concluded the breach was "without any deliberation or intention to mislead", the BBC reports.
It comes after Constance quoted Prof Jay, who is overseeing a review of the evidence on grooming gangs in Scotland, telling parliament that the professor is not in favour of further grooming gang inquiries.
Prof Jay subsequently contacted the government to clarify that her remarks did not refer to inquiries in Scotland.
Constance has now been given a written reprimand and ordered to make a statement to parliament to update the official record.
