UBSL Caribbean Line (part of the UAL Alliance) and Sea-Cargo made history in the Port of Aberdeen’s South Harbour on April 6 with the transfer of two 85 tonne generators from the cargo vessel Baltic Blue to UBSL’s cargo vessel BOCS Vision, the first recorded vessel-to-vessel cargo transfer in the port’s near 900 year history.
The lifting operation between the two vessels was complex, involving two tandem lifts using the ship’s cranes on the UBSL vessel, with stevedoring provided by Sea-Cargo on both vessels. The operation was the culmination of a programme of detailed planning, close collaboration and careful execution to ensure a safe, efficient and cost-effective cargo transfer.
The UAL Alliance operates a direct monthly liner service connecting Aberdeen to a growing network of ports across the Caribbean, northern South America and the Gulf of Mexico. UAL also offer direct monthly sailings from Aberdeen to West Africa, and has recommenced its service to East Africa.
In addition to its liner services to Norway, Denmark and Rotterdam, Sea-Cargo provides a range of port services, including stevedoring, warehousing, distribution and project logistics across the Port of Aberdeen's North and South Harbours.
