It was an international results day for Seid (S6), who opened his SQA results in the heart of New York while completing an unforgettable summer internship.

Seid’s journey is a testament to where ambition can lead, highlighted by the outstanding achievement of three Advanced Highers in English, Economics, and History, a fitting conclusion to a memorable school experience. He is now preparing for the next chapter, studying History and Economics at the University of Edinburgh.

The international internship was made possible through the close relationships RGC fosters with its global alumni network as part of the S6 Future Pathways programme. Each year, the RGC Advancement Team works closely with S6 pupils, creating opportunities to connect with and learn from the extensive community of former pupils worldwide. Through this programme, pupils are introduced to inspiring alumni who offer advice, mentoring, and global networking opportunities.

Early on, Seid approached the Advancement Team to explore a career path in financial services and investment, which led to introductions with alumni in London, Helsinki, and New York. Demonstrating strong initiative and commitment throughout the process, Seid secured a one-month internship with Will Rhind (Class of ‘96) at his company GraniteShares in New York City, gaining valuable experience in the fast-paced world of exchange-traded funds on Wall Street.

Grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Will and his team at GraniteShares this summer, Seid shared: “This internship has been an incredible opportunity to learn, grow and connect with inspiring people in the financial world. Now I am looking forward to starting at the University of Edinburgh, where I hope to keep pursuing my passion for football while expanding my network and continuing to push towards bigger challenges in finance. I am excited for what is ahead and grateful for everyone who has helped me get to this point.

“Over the past month, I had the opportunity to get a closer look at the ETF space and how products are built, managed, and brought to market. I learnt from such driven people, and got a feel for what it’s like to be part of a fast-paced, high-performing team. From the first day, the team welcomed me in, ensuring I felt included, supported, and challenged.

“Outside the office, I was lucky enough to visit and network with professionals at some of the biggest names in finance - including Nasdaq Exchange, NYSE, Jane Street, Bank of America, JPMorganChase, Clear Street, BTIG, TD and Google. Every conversation offered a fresh and fascinating perspective of the finance industry, furthering my knowledge and passion.

“I ended this experience with not only a much clearer picture of the ETF industry, but what it takes to build and manage successful investment products, and, most importantly, what kind of environment I want to be part of as I start building my career.

“I am extremely grateful to everyone at GraniteShares who spent time sharing advice, answering my questions, and helping me understand how the ETF industry operates.

“Being introduced to William Rhind during our S6 Future Pathways programme has opened up opportunities way beyond what I could have imagined and his support and openness has made a huge impression on me.”

Seid joined Robert Gordon’s College in S1 from Mile End Primary School and quickly threw himself into school life. A dedicated footballer, he was proud to captain the 2024-2025 Senior Football XI, leading the team through an unbeaten 2024 into the new year and ultimately reaching the Independent schools semi-final and topping the North East Division League for another year. Off the pitch, Seid spent a year volunteering with Alzheimer's Scotland after his grandfather was diagnosed with the condition. That experience was deeply personal and gave him the chance to give something back while learning the value of compassion and community.

RGC wishes Seid every success as he takes the next step in his journey, confident that his drive, talent, and commitment will continue to take him to remarkable places.
