A senior leader in the energy sector is set to return to her former school, St Margaret’s School for Girls, when she will deliver the keynote address at its annual Speech Day event.
Tamsin Lishman, head of group programme management office for centrica, has been invited to deliver the speech to pupils, staff and parents attending the end-of-term prize-giving at the Music Hall later today.
During her speech, Tamsin will share some of the many life lessons she learned during her 13 years at St Margaret’s, as well as how she left the school with ”a really strong academic training, a mind opened to learning and curiosity and a group of lifelong friends”.
”St Margaret’s gave me confidence in my own ability and that it was OK to be clever or want to do well as a woman,” she said.
A pupil at St Margaret’s - Aberdeen’s only all-girls school - until 1994, Tamsin studied Engineering Science at Oxford University, graduating with a first class Master’s degree. During her time at Oxford, she was awarded the IChemE prize in Chemical Engineering.
Tamsin started her career in the energy sector on the ICI graduate scheme as a project engineer and then operations lead for a liquid natural polymer plant, after being sponsored by ICI at University. She then spent nine years in BP, starting in Gas and Power, followed by a number of business roles in the North Sea.
In 2010, she was appointed Head of Business Development for Centrica’s gas storage and processing business, Centrica Storage Ltd, before taking up the role of Head of Business Planning and Portfolio Management for Centrica’s global oil and gas business.
From 2016 until last December, Tamsin was morecambe ssset director for Spirit Energy where she led a turnaround of Morecambe gas field performance.
A Fellow of the Energy Institute, Tamsin is passionate about building high performing teams and leading change to meet the goal of providing affordable, low carbon energy to provide heat, light and mobility.
St Margaret’s head, Anna Tomlinson, said it was a pleasure to welcome Tamsin back to her former school.
“There is no secret to Tamsin’s success – it is absolutely testament to all the hard-work and commitment she has put into her studies and her career over the years,” she said. “She is a fantastic role-model for the girls at St Margaret’s, not just because of her academic success, but also because of her can-do approach to everything she undertakes. She is a real inspiration and we are delighted that she remains part of the St Margaret’s family.”
