From January 1 2021, following the end of the Brexit transition period, UK-based data controllers and processors offering goods or services to citizens in the European Economic Area will need to have an EU Representative in place.
The penalties for failure to comply are significant. Fines can be levied at up to 2% of worldwide turnover or €10 million, whichever figure is higher.
To assist clients in meeting this requirement, Shepherd and Wedderburn has launched an EU Representative service through its Irish subsidiary, Saltire Data Protection Services Limited, based in Dublin.
