Signal recently swapped the blue waters of Curaçao and the workshops of Schiedam for the sun-soaked shores of Las Palmas to film episode three of the mini-documentary produced for marine and energy experts Wärtsilä.
This latest episode takes a deep dive into the specialist skills of Wärtsilä Underwater Services, a division composed of OEM-trained divers and engineers who carry out vital underwater maintenance and inspections around the world. The production aimed to capture the human expertise and precision that make these technically challenging operations possible.
As with every Signal production, this film presented its own set of challenges. With a tight turnaround from pre-production to filming, Director and Cameraman Jamie Baikie had only a few days to finalize the script in Aberdeen, travel to Las Palmas, and begin shooting. Despite the rapid schedule, the crew delivered the high production standards and creative storytelling that Signal is recognized for.
Through on-location interviews, cinematic visuals, and dynamic storytelling, the team showcased the passion, innovation, and commitment that define Wärtsilä’s approach to marine engineering. From divers beneath the surface to engineers on deck, the film highlights the teamwork and dedication that drive each project.
Signal’s strong partnership with Wärtsilä demonstrates the trust placed in the team to manage projects of this nature, drawing on their understanding of the industry and experience with complex international shoots. This episode is the final installment in a series exploring innovation and recruitment processes across Wärtsilä’s global operations.
