A series of new shows bound for Aberdeen’s His Majesty’s Theatre are set to bring the silver screen to the silver city.

Aberdeen Performing Arts has announced that stage adaptations of The Girl on the Train, Saturday Night Fever and The Bodyguard will all visit the city theatre this year.

Aberdeen Performing Arts director of programming and creative projects, Ben Torrie, said: “Film and theatre audiences alike will be spoilt for choice with these new shows. Whether you relish a thriller, are moved by musicals or have a soft spot for a love story, there’s something for everyone.

“The Bodyguard and Saturday Night Fever are firm favourites, and The Girl on the Train is a new play guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat.”

The Girl on the Train pulls in to Aberdeen from September 3-7.

Rachel Watson longs for a different life. Her only escape is the perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy and in love. Or so it appears. When Rachel learns that the woman she’s been secretly watching has suddenly disappeared, she finds herself as a witness and even a suspect in a thrilling mystery in which she will face bigger revelations than she could ever have anticipated.

Adapted from Paula Hawkins’ novel – an international phenomenon selling over twenty million copies worldwide, this gripping new play will keep you guessing until the final moment.

The reimagined music and dance extravaganza Saturday Night Fever will be at His Majesty’s Theatre from October 8-12.

Marking 40 years since its famous UK cinema release, this new stage version of the John Travolta classic promises more drama, more music and hot new choreography, which is sure to have you dancing in the aisles!

Saturday Night Fever tells the story of Tony Manero, who escapes the harsh realities of working-class Brooklyn life when he embarks on a reckless, yet thrilling road to dancing success.

The movie soundtrack remains one of the bestselling of all time, featuring the Bee Gees greatest hits including Stayin’ Alive, How Deep Is Your Love, Night Fever, Tragedy and More Than a Woman as well as 70’s favourites Boogie Shoes, Disco Inferno and many more.

The smash-hit West End musical, The Bodyguard returns to HMT from November 5-9.

Former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer, is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from an unknown stalker. Each expects to be in charge – what they don't expect is to fall in love.

The Bodyguard features a whole host of irresistible classics including One Moment in Time, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and, of course, the legendary I Will Always Love You.

The Music Hall is also getting in on the act with concerts including Back to the Future: Film Concert Live on April 22, and on March 14 the RSNO will take to the stage at the city venue to perform The Music of Harry Potter, while at HMT Rain Man is set to entertain audiences from April 1-6, and Little Miss Sunshine will be at the city theatre from September 17-21

The Bodyguard, Girl on the Train and Saturday Night Fever go on sale to APA Friends on Thursday, February 7, and on general sale on Tuesday, February 12.
