Great British Energy has announced the appointment of Simon Roddy as its new chief executive officer of its nuclear division.
Simon joins Great British Energy - Nuclear bringing with him more than 30 years' experience with Shell in the energy sector, both internationally and the UK.
His background includes extensive experience in the management of energy infrastructure, and the delivery of complex energy projects. Most recently, as senior vice president for Shell UK, he has played a pivotal role in the North Sea's energy transition.
Following the recent announcement that the UK's first Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) will be built at Wylfa on Anglesey, Simon's proven track record in managing large-scale energy investments will be critical as GBE-N progresses project development and delivers on the Government's ambition to bring forward one of Europe's first SMR fleets - supporting economic growth, creating skilled jobs, and powering millions of homes.
Simon will officially assume his role as CEO on 2nd March 2026.
GBE-N chair Simon Bowen said: "I am delighted to welcome Simon to GBE-N at such a pivotal moment for the UK's nuclear energy future.
"His leadership and experience will be invaluable as we deliver the first SMR project at Wylfa and help realise the Government's new nuclear ambitions."
Minister for Science, Innovation, Research and Nuclear, Lord Vallance, said: "Simon brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record that will help deliver the UK's first small modular reactors at Wylfa in North Wales.
"I look forward to working with Simon and Great British Energy - Nuclear's leadership team as we enter a new golden age of nuclear, which will create thousands of jobs and boost the UK's energy security."
Simon Roddy shared: "I am delighted to share that after 33 wonderful years with Shell, I will be joining Great British Energy – Nuclear (GBE-N) as chief executive on 2nd March 2026.
"I am excited about moving to a new sector and to a team which is pivotal to building the ‘golden age of nuclear’.
"GBE-N is already achieving significant progress with a number of major milestones delivered, including the recently announced Small Modular Reactor site at Wylfa on Anglesey.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to build on this momentum and look forward to working closely with colleagues, the local community, supply chain, and of course government to ensure a successful programme which generates jobs, growth, and clean home-grown nuclear energy.
"Thank you to all my industry and Shell colleagues, past and present, and to all those in Adura which went live last week. I look forward to becoming part of the GBE-N team."
