Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) has unveiled its new gym refurbishment following a half a million-pound investment

As part of the substantial upgrade, the facility is the first in Scotland to introduce the latest fitness strength tracking system, Advagym, which allows members to monitor both cardio and strength workouts

Established in 2009, ASV is the largest sporting facility in the North-east and is recognised as one of Scotland’s leading sports and fitness venues, therefore, the £500,000k refurb ensures its position as a leader in the city’s competitive fitness market.

The new gym, which saw the installation of more than 100 pieces of world class equipment, new flooring, lighting and audio-visual kit, also includes MyZone and Precor technology for advanced connectivity and trackability

ASV’s health & fitness development manager, Kris McIntosh, said: “This refurbishment has made ASV one of the very best gyms in the country and it demonstrates our commitment to continually ensuring that our members are experiencing the most advanced technology in the industry to support them with their fitness journey.

“Embedding Advagym technology via industry leader, Sony, is an incredible addition to the Sports Village and I have no doubt that members of all ages and abilities will reap the benefits of this advanced tracking system to help them reach their individual fitness milestones.

In addition to the new state-of-the-art gym, the venue also runs more than 100 group exercise classes, and boasts an eight-lane 400m track, a six-lane indoor running straight, squash courts and sports studios.  The world class Aquatics Centre has an Olympic standard 50m pool, 25m pool and full diving facilities, including springboard and platforms up to 10m.

Last month, ASV reopened its newly upgraded full size indoor pitch following a £250,000 investment to install a premium 3G surface.

Celebrating its tenth year, ASV chief executive, Duncan Sinclair, said: “We have made substantial improvements this year and we are dedicated to continuing to invest into the venue, as our main purpose is to provide our community with a top-class sporting facility which can be enjoyed by everyone.

“Over the past ten years, we have had a tremendous amount of support from local businesses and individuals and our membership continues to grow because we are focussed on remaining ahead of the game in the facilities and equipment we offer. The new gym brings ASV to the next level in world class technology and as we continue to invest, we also continue to attract top class, major sporting events to Aberdeen which supports the city’s economic stability.”

With a focus on providing everyone in the city’s communities with access to first-class sporting facilities, ASV works to inspire anyone to achieve their fitness goals and delivers a range of activities for children from ages 0-15 up to the Evergreen over 60’s programme.

A partnership between the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City Council and Sport Scotland, ASV has more than 7,500 members, welcomes around one million visitors every year and employs more than 250 members of staff.
