Aberdeen councillor Alex McLellan has been forced to deny joining Nigel Farage's Reform UK after an error on the council website suggested he had defected.
The SNP councillor for Tillydrone, Seaton and Old Aberdeen was "dismayed" when people on social media started claiming he had joined Reform.
The Press and Journal reports Cllr McLellan later traced the rumours back to the local authority's own website, which it turned out had erroneously listed his party as Reform UK instead of the SNP, something he said "raised huge concerns".
Calling for a probe into the error, which has since been corrected, Cllr McLellan warned: "Actions must have consequences."
A Reform spokesman told the P&J Mr McLellan's alleged allegiance pivot was "absolute nonsense".
