Sonomatic, a specialist in non-destructive testing and inspection technologies, has launched the i-Claw – a robotic, ROV-deployable system designed to perform I-tube weld inspections on subsea assets.

The i-Claw was developed as part of an asset life extension project, tailored to meet the specific challenges of inspecting heavy-walled risers and complex material types.

Combining robotic deployment with advanced Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) and Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD), the system delivers accurate and repeatable weld integrity assessments in harsh subsea environments.

With custom-configured PAUT and TOFD capabilities, the i-Claw offers exceptional precision in detecting and sizing weld flaws and cracks.

This allows operators to make informed decisions, reduce inspection uncertainty, and extend the operational life of critical infrastructure.

The i-Claw marks another advancement in Sonomatic’s drive to deliver specialised, high-performance inspection solutions for the offshore energy sector.
