Spectacular West Coast sporting estate in one of Britain’s last truly wild & unspoilt places

Situated in some of Scotland’s most dramatic mountain scenery, Balgy Lodge and Ben Shieldaig Estate lie on the southern shores of Upper Loch Torridon, surrounded by the peaks of the Torridon hills. Freshwater lochans, shingle bays and sheltered coves rich with wildlife characterise this majestic landscape.

The lodge and estate stretch to just under 4,000 acres in total and offer exciting sport including fine salmon fishing on the River Balgy, trout fishing on Loch Damph (a record catch of a 19 lb brown trout has been recorded in recent years), challenging red deer stalking and rough shooting.

Balgy Lodge was constructed in 1991 to a traditional design with whitewashed walls and a pitched slate roof. There are magnificent views across the loch to the rugged mountains beyond. Combining country life practicalities with ease of entertaining, there is a large dining kitchen with AGA and a generously sized sitting room with an open fire and windows on three sides, beautifully framing the breathtaking views. A boot room and utility room, three bedrooms and two bathrooms complete the ground floor. Upstairs are a further three bedrooms, another bathroom and a master suite comprising double bedroom with capacious fitted wardrobes and an en suite bathroom. There is an attic above the rear part of the house which has drawings in place for a further three bedrooms and a bathroom.

Surrounding the lodge are expanses of lawn and grounds which run down to the River Balgy and the coastal shoreline of Loch Torridon. Two derelict stone shielings sit in a stunning waterside setting and outline planning permission has been granted to rebuild these ruins into a bothy and boathouse.

There is further development potential in the form of a traditional stone former estate bothy which again has outline planning permission to be converted into a five bedroom house.

Luke French for Savills comments: “Balgy Lodge and the Ben Shieldaig Estate represent an extraordinary opportunity to own a substantial piece of stunning part of Scotland: a beautiful, rugged wilderness which is a haven for fishermen, field sports and sailing enthusiasts and all those who love the great outdoors. There is the option to buy the estate in two lots, with the lodge and a hundred acres with salmon fishings as Lot 1, and the remaining 3,886 acres of Ben Shieldaig Estate as Lot 2. The latter could then develop the bothy to create a new estate lodge.”
