Registered charitable leisure trust Sport Aberdeen has named Jo Bell as its new Director for Sport and Active Lifestyles.
Bell left her post as Partnership Manager for Grampian at sportscotland in July to head up Sport Aberdeen’s Sport and Active Lifestyles division, responsible for creating opportunities and developing sporting pathways.
Bell, who was previously Regional Development and then Partnership Manager with sportscotland, was responsible to 3 Local Authorities for the development of partnerships that developed clear pathways for athletes, coaches and wider participants.
Standout achievements with sportscotland were realised through the review, restructure and implementation of a strategic plan, securing a 6 figure investment; Bell was also a key driver in affecting change within Aberdeen City and developing the Active Aberdeen Partnership. Prior to this, Bell was Active Schools Manager for West Lothian Council and has extensive experience with developing and managing staff as well as leading programmes and projects at local, regional and national levels.
Sport Aberdeen has also appointed a group operations manager, David Selkirk. He was previously Head of Facilities with Oldham Community Leisure, a Leisure Trust within the Greater Manchester area. Working closely with the existing Group Operations Manager, David will be responsible for the overall line management of a group of facilities, the line management of Sport Aberdeen’s Health and Safety and Environment and Property Asset Teams in addition to a number of core areas of work across all Sport Aberdeen facilities.
Commenting, Jo Bell said:
“It is exciting to play such a leading role, with a strong and established team, at a time where collaborative working across the city is at the forefront. I am thrilled to join Sport Aberdeen, and help drive and deliver the ambition of the Active Aberdeen Partnership in developing the sporting landscape and creating opportunities for all to get active in the City.”
Alistair Robertson, Sport Aberdeen managing director said:
"I'm delighted that Jo and David are joining Sport Aberdeen. They bring a wealth of experience and will be real assets as we seek to strengthen opportunities to participate in sport and physical activity in Aberdeen.”
