Peterhead Port Authority is pleased to announce the signing of a landmark licence agreement with P&J Johnstone Ltd and Don Fishing Ltd for the provision of auctioneering services at the Peterhead Fish Market E-Auction.
This strategic partnership marks a significant step forward in modernising and streamlining seafood sales at the UK’s largest whitefish port.
Under the terms of the agreement, P&J Johnstone Ltd and Don Fishing Ltd will jointly operate as licensed auctioneers, bringing decades of industry expertise and trusted relationships to the digital auction platform.
The initial licence agreement is set for a five-year term, with the potential for a five-year extension, reflecting a long-term commitment to innovation and excellence in seafood trading.
This development forms part of a wider initiative to introduce a full E-Auction system at Peterhead Fish Market, aimed at enhancing transparency, efficiency and accessibility for buyers and sellers across the seafood supply chain.
The E-Auction platform is scheduled to launch in early 2026, positioning Peterhead at the forefront of digital transformation in the UK’s fishing industry.

The E-Auction system will offer real-time bidding, secure transactions and remote access for buyers across the UK and Europe. The involvement of two respected local firms reinforces Peterhead’s reputation for excellence in the seafood industry and supports the continued growth of sustainable fishing practices.
Representatives from P&J Johnstone Ltd and Don Fishing Ltd echoed the Port Authority’s enthusiasm, expressing their commitment to delivering a high standard of service which supports not only the local fishing fleet, but also those who rely on Peterhead Fish Market for their daily supplies.
