The Thainstone Spectacular Show and Sale of Show Calves will return to Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, on Friday 22nd August, marking the start of the busy autumn sale season.

This year’s event, once again kindly sponsored by Blackadder’s Solicitors, has attracted a strong entry, with 50 top-quality calves.

The classes will be judged by Neil Slack of Plumtree House, Newby, Penrith, who will cast his expert eye over the line-up. The judging will begin at 9.30am then followed by the sale at 2:30pm, or immediately after the store cattle sale.

John Angus, Head of Livestock at Aberdeen & Northern Marts, said: “It is fantastic to see an increased entry this year, with a line-up of top-quality calves and many top prize winners from the local agricultural shows. The entry also includes 15 cattle travelling from the Orkney Isles.

At last year’s event, J S Baillie, Sebay Farm, Tankerness, Orkney topped the sale with his February 2024 born Limousin cross heifer, which took the 2024 haltered heifer championship and achieved the top price of £9,000.

Entries are also now open for the Young Farmers Overwintering Competition, very kindly sponsored for the second year by Miller Plant. Young farmers can purchase stock directly from the Spectacular Show & Sale, with entries closing in November. Early participation is encouraged to secure the best animals.
