Red Rooster Lifting is proud to support the incredible volunteers of the Meldrum Amenities Improvement Group (MAIG) – a local organisation at the heart of Oldmeldrum’s community.
MAIG reached out to us regarding load testing for their hanging baskets, we were happy to help. Our Production Manager, Gavin Fraser, carried out a series of load tests using 2 x Kito CX003 manual chain hoists and calibrated test weights.
The test procedure involved:
- Testing 61 wall brackets
- Brackets were tested up to 40 kg using 2 x Kito CX003 hoists
- Conducting a 3-minute lift and hold per bracket
- Certifying each bracket with a test plate displaying the serial number, test date, and safe working load
These brackets, located throughout the town’s high-traffic areas, now meet robust safety standards.

MAIG is run entirely by volunteers who dedicate their time to maintaining the town’s beautiful displays, from vibrant summer floral arrangements to festive winter lighting. Each year, they prepare and maintain:
- 108 hanging baskets
- 30 barrier baskets and troughs
- 15 barrel tubs, 5 wheelbarrows, 2 decorative beehives
- A wildflower area at the bottom of town
All this is done without council funding and relies entirely on local donations, community events, and sheer volunteer dedication. Their work starts in February with seed sewing and plant care, leading up to spectacular summer displays showcased ahead of the Oldmeldrum Sports & Highland Games. The baskets are watered six days a week and maintained through to the end of September.
MAIG also manages Christmas lights, hosts community events, and runs litter picks with local youth groups. Their only steady funding comes from the MAIG Support Fund – costing a mere £52 per year with a monthly cash draw.
