Aberdeen-based Technology SME Viper Innovations has released a five-year Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy encouraging similar SMEs to follow their approach.
Viper's CSR Document lays out its strategy for the next five years for its CSR framework and builds on the company's good work over recent years. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) covers a wide range of initiatives and responsibilities where our actions, as a business and individuals, will impact our employees, each other, our community, and the environment.
Viper ensures all employees are treated fairly, focusing on health, well-being and development. Staff are offered a wide range of benefits to support this, including weekly yoga classes, fresh fruit, access to private healthcare and many more. The business is also active in their local communities' social, educational, and economic well-being, with regular involvement in charity and educational initiatives.
Viper Innovations is compliant with Environmental Management Systems certified to ISO 14001 and is actively involved in environmental initiatives such as litter picking and biodiversity projects. As part of its Company standards, it also maintains compliance with modern slavery, anti-bribery and conflict minerals regulations and has an Ethics Policy in place.
Viper's five strategic priorities address the SME's fundamental goals outlined in their recent CSR strategy document:
- A focus on the development, health, and well-being of staff
- Continue to create a positive impact on local communities
- A low-emission business
- A resilient business

One of Viper's CSR strategy goals is to become carbon neutral and aligned with the government's Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution with its product and service offerings. One of Viper's environmental initiatives includes purchasing 31.5 acres of land near the village of Stogumber in the West of England. The land comprises 14 acres of mature and young woodland and over 17 acres of open pastureland. The company are working with the Forestry Commission to plant a further 9,000 trees and shrubs to improve the biodiversity of plants and wildlife and for carbon sequestration.
Viper's Board of Directors and Operational Management Board have committed to ensuring that staff are empowered to deliver the CSR strategy and that its CSR ethos is cascaded to all staff and shared with its stakeholders.
"We are determined to ensure that Viper Innovations remains a resilient business and becomes an exemplary beacon of how CSR can be delivered and that we can make a positive impact on the lives of our staff, our community, and the environment. We hope that other businesses are inspired by our CSR Strategy and are encouraged to take action to make positive change. " Edward Davies, Managing Director, Viper Innovations.
Viper's CSR programme is managed by a CSR committee led by Committee Chair Shelley-Anne Douglas. CSR committee reports are reviewed by Viper's Operational Management Board, which outlines the progress and new initiatives through regular and open communications accessible to all staff, stakeholders, and the wider community.
