TechFest has delivered two successful Maths into the Energy Mix events recently took place, engaging a total of 60 students across two industry-hosted sessions.

One event was sponsored by the SPE Aberdeen Section and hosted by Offshore Energies UK, while the second was kindly sponsored and hosted by Emerson.

At each event, 30 students worked collaboratively in teams to calculate the energy requirements of a fictional village. The challenge required them to apply maths-based problem-solving skills to determine how a combination of fossil fuels and renewable energy sources could meet demand.

The Maths into the Energy Mix programme expands beyond traditional oil and gas topics to incorporate renewable energy challenges, reflecting the evolving energy landscape and the realities of the energy transition.

Supported by experienced industry volunteers, the sessions provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect classroom learning with real-world energy applications. The events successfully highlighted the vital role mathematics plays in developing practical, balanced energy solutions for the future.
