More
than 100 secondary pupils from across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire got the chance
to hone their networking skills and learn how to make a good first impression
as part of their career journey into the world of work.
Part
of TechFest’s Careers Networking programme the events, organised in partnership
with NESCol and sponsored by DYW, TechnipFMC and OPITO, took place at the
college’s campuses in Aberdeen and Fraserburgh.
The
sessions provided an opportunity for the young people to network with industry
professionals from the energy sector, and to talk with them about the variety
of career opportunities available right across the sector.
Throughout
the day, the pupils who came from Aberdeen Grammar and St Machar, Mintlaw and
Fraserburgh academies, benefited from tips and advice on a wide range of topics
which can help them prepare for making the move towards their future careers.
That
included learning how to make a good first impression at interview,
understanding how their meta skills can maximise the benefits of other skills,
and advice on the impact of social media on networking, alongside internet
safety guidance.
The
sessions also involved participation in industry-linked STEM workshops provided
by NESCol.
TechFest
runs a year-long programme of activities which promote the benefits and career
opportunities of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to
pupils and the wider community across Scotland.
The
highly popular Careers Networking events have been running since 2015, giving
hundreds of young people over the years access to industry professionals who
have raised awareness of career opportunities within the STEM disciplines.
