Technip welcomes new build vessel Skandi Africa

New build flexible lay and construction vessel, Skandi Africa, has joined the industry leading Technip fleet, following the signing of the on-hire agreement in Schiedam, Netherlands on October 5.

The ship, owned by DOF Subsea, which was awarded “Ship of the Year 2015”, has now begun her five year charter commitment, working on global projects for the company.

Built by Vard Soeviknes in Norway, the state-of-the-art DP3* vessel is specially designed to operate in harsh environments. She has a length of 160.9 meters, a breadth of 32 meters, and is equipped with a 900 tonne active-heave compensated crane and 650 tonne Tiltable Lay System which can operate in water depths up to 3,000 meters. Her deck space is a large 2,700 m2 and she has under-deck storage capacity of 3,500 tonnes. This high specification means the vessel is ideally equipped for deepwater construction and flexible lay projects in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

Once final preparations have been completed, the vessel will commence her operational duties.

Skandi Africa is a valuable addition to the Technip fleet and further demonstrates Technip’s commitment to regularly investing in its fleet of marine assets.
