Aberdeen-based telecoms specialist DF Communications marked a major milestone this month, celebrating 40 years in business with a standout anniversary event at Union Kirk.
Bringing together over 200 long-standing clients, trusted suppliers, and both past and present team members, the evening was a celebration not only of DF’s history, but of the relationships that have shaped the company over four decades. Remarkably, some of those in attendance have been customers of DF Communications since the very beginning, reflecting the company’s long-standing commitment to service, trust, and local expertise.
Founded in 1986 by Dick Fleming, DF Communications was built on forward-thinking ideas and a clear vision for the future of communication. At a time when mobile technology was still in its infancy, Dick recognised its potential early, even predicting that one day we would be watching TV on our phones, a concept that seemed unimaginable at the time.
Today, the business is led by Dick’s daughter, Managing Director Fiona Fraser, alongside Sales Director Craig Forsyth, continuing the legacy with the same customer-first approach while driving innovation in a rapidly evolving telecoms landscape. From business mobiles and hosted phone systems to full connectivity solutions, DF Communications has established itself as a trusted partner for businesses across Aberdeen and nationwide.
It was particularly special to have Dick’s family in attendance at the celebration, including his wife, helping mark the legacy they began together 40 years ago.
The 40th anniversary event was a true reflection of the company’s personality and community focus. Guests enjoyed a full evening of entertainment, including sets from DJ Homealone and live performances from pipe band Drums N Roses, with added magic from Lee McGrogan of Phoenix Magic. Attendees also had the unique opportunity to have their photo taken with the Scottish Cup, kindly provided with support from Aberdeen FC.
A special thanks also goes to the team at Union Kirk for their wonderful catering and for helping the evening run so smoothly.
The evening also carried a strong charitable element, with over £1,000 raised in support of Aberdeen FC Community Trust, reinforcing DF Communications’ ongoing commitment to giving back to the local community.
Over the past 40 years, the telecoms industry has transformed beyond recognition, from analogue systems and early mobile devices to today’s fully integrated, cloud-based communications and high-speed connectivity. Throughout every stage of that evolution, DF Communications has remained at the forefront, helping businesses adapt, stay connected, and operate more efficiently.
As the company looks ahead, its focus remains the same: delivering reliable, innovative telecoms solutions backed by genuine, local support.
Reflecting on the milestone, Managing Director Fiona Fraser commented: “This event was about celebrating the people who have been part of our journey, our customers, our partners, and our team. We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, and excited for what’s ahead as we continue to support businesses with the communication tools they need to thrive.”
With four decades behind them and a clear vision for the future, DF Communications continues to prove that great service, strong relationships, and forward-thinking ideas never go out of style.
