A multicultural family event which celebrates cultural diversity in Aberdeen will return on August 21, 2022 as Aberdeen Mela’s One World Day takes place at Westburn Park.
The event will run from 12:00-19:00 and entry is FREE. The day will be packed with live music and dance, children’s activities, and a huge variety of stalls, including world food, crafts, and a wide range of third-sector organisations.
Throughout the day, festival goers will be treated to performances from across the world, including groups from Venezuela, Asia, and across the UK. The line-up will also feature many young performers from the North-east.
AMC Manager, Ahashan Habib, said: “We are very excited about bringing Aberdeen Mela – One World Day once again to Westburn Park. After the lock downs people are really wanting to connect and have fun! This festival is what everyone needs. There is something for everyone.
The Aberdeen Mela – One World Day is all about cultural celebration and promoting mutual respect through learning about different communities through a showcase of food, music, and dance. A wide range of food stalls will cater for all tastes both exotic and traditional as well as showcase amazing local crafts, children’s activities and information stalls. The event is delighted that it will be extensively supported by various community groups and organisations, as well as public funders and corporate sponsors which will make it a truly representative of the North East community.
Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “EventScotland is delighted to support the Aberdeen Mela through our National Funding Programme. Scotland and Aberdeen is the perfect stage for community events such as this and I look forward to Westburn Park welcoming the city’s diverse communities to celebrate “one world day” this August.”
