Tesla UK sales down 45% in new blow for Elon Musk

Sales of new Tesla cars in Britain fell more than 45% in May from a year earlier, underscoring the challenges facing Elon Musk as he renews his focus on the electric vehicle maker.

The marque’s sales declined for a fifth straight month in the UK, Germany and Italy, according to data from the research firm New Automotive. The sales decline in the UK, Europe’s biggest EV market, came as industry-wide electric car sales jumped 28%.

Tesla sold 1,758 units in Britain last month, down from 3,244 a year earlier, preliminary data from the research firm New Automotive showed. However, it remained the bestselling battery EV in Britain so far this year.

Dublin the launch pad for Deliveroo to send takeaways by drone

Deliveroo is to run trials of deliveries by drone in Dublin.

The app has formed a partnership with Manna, an Irish aerial distributor, and the service will launch on Thursday in the northern suburb of Blanchardstown, with Deliveroo conducting a test phase over the coming weeks to assess how successful the drone deliveries are.

Customers within a 3km radius of Blanchardstown would be able to order from local restaurants, including sushi from Musashi, burritos from Boojum and burgers from Elephant and Castle, which would be flown to customers in as little as three minutes, Deliveroo said.

Mental health sick days soar by 5m in a year

Britons took an extra 5 million sick days for mental health reasons last year after a surge in conditions including stress, anxiety and depression.

Staff took a record 20.5 million days off because of mental health in 2024, according to the Office for National Statistics, up from 14.8 million in 2023.

This accounted for 13.7% of all sick days taken in Britain, the highest proportion since 2019.
