Kim Kardashian's shapewear brand Skims hits $5bn valuation

Skims, the shapewear brand co-founded by celebrity and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian, says it is now valued at $5billion (£2.93bn) after raising $225million of new funding.

The company says it plans to use the money from investors, including an arm of Wall Street banking giant Goldman Sachs, to open more shops and expand around the world.

The funding round is one of the biggest this year for a US consumer brand and comes as Skims faces fierce competition from rivals like Lululemon.

Aberdeen-born scientist brings world-class Alzheimer’s research home

Aberdeen-born Professor Craig Ritchie says bringing his pioneering Alzheimer’s research back to his home city is “deeply personal”.

He remembers the buzz of the oil boom and the optimism surrounding the Granite City.

Ryanair scraps printed boarding passes to go fully digital

Passengers who present printed boarding passes at airports will no longer be accepted to fly with Ryanair, the company has announced.

One of Europe's biggest budget airlines said it was "moving to 100% digital boarding passes" from Wednesday in a bid to speed up travel and lower costs.

It said all customers needed to check in online before arriving at the airport, adding that 90% of its 206 million passengers were already doing so and using digital boarding passes.

Heineken UK cuts Foster's alcohol strength to 3.4%

Foster's beer drinkers in the UK will soon find their lager's alcohol strength cut to 3.4%.

Heineken UK, which brews Foster's, said cutting the alcohol strength from the current 3.7% would make the lager eligible for lower rates of alcohol duty.

The brewer hinted at cheaper pints saying "customers benefit from more competitive pricing" because of the lower tax charge.

Apple unveil £220 iPhone Pocket resembling ‘insanely expensive sock’

It is either the perfect Christmas gift or just a very expensive sock — for your phone.

Apple has launched an Issey Miyake-designed sling to carry your iPhone that costs up to £220, prompting ridicule from some quarters.

The iPhone Pocket “is born from the idea of creating an additional pocket” and “inspired by the concept of a piece of cloth”, the company said.
