King Charles visits Cairngorms after summer wildfire
King Charles has expressed "admiration and appreciation" for those who helped tackle this summer's wildfire in the Cairngorms.
The king travelled to An Lochan Uaine – commonly known as the Green Lochan -where he met volunteers, firefighters and landowners who were part of the efforts.
The fire broke out in the Glenmore area near Aviemore on July 15 and burned across 3,300 hectares of land for almost five weeks.

George Street shop could become roller-skating venue amid hopes to transform area into ‘leisure destination’
Plans for a George Street roller rink have been unveiled as Bon Accord Centre bosses ramp up their vision to revamp the area.
Laura Gryszkiewicz from Inverurie is plotting the new leisure venue which will take over from Nickel and Dime if planning chiefs give her the green light.
The building at number 107 is owned by the same group who also have the Bon Accord Centre and the former John Lewis department store in their portfolio.

Stop saying net zero — it’s been weaponised, says net zero committee
The term “net zero” should be scrapped, as it has been weaponised by opponents and become toxic among the public, MPs have said.
An influential Commons committee, itself called the energy security and net zero committee, warned that a “political consensus” in the UK around tackling climate change had “broken down” and called for a radical rebranding as part of efforts to rebuild support.
Reform UK has increasingly used the term “net stupid zero” when attacking environmental policies it claims are pointlessly driving up prices for consumers and costing thousands of jobs.

Aberdeen car park latest filming location for upcoming US show Laird
Filming for the upcoming drama series Laird has expanded to the Denburn Car Park in Aberdeen.
The multi-storey on Spa Street will be closed for several days while scenes are filmed for the new Paramount+ series.
Production crews were spotted near the Bon Accord Centre and George Street earlier today.

OpenAI reveals six more safety issues and unveils plan to disclose incidents
OpenAI revealed six more incidents of unexpected or concerning behaviour by its intelligence (AI) models, and announced a plan for tracking and disclosing such incidents in the future.
Some of the previously unreported incidents included models concealing or fabricating information, the ChatGPT-maker said in a blog post on Wednesday.
The boss of OpenAI Sam Altman said earlier this week: "The world should trust that we are going to do the right thing because it's the right thing and we feel the magnitude of this."

Scottish Government jobs agency quits Granite Mile
Another shop on Union Street is set to lie empty, as the Scottish Government is accused of a “negative” move away from the city’s high street.
Skills Development Scotland plans to move out of 381-383 Union Street, as part of a wider review of the employment agency’s estate.
In a letter seen by The Press and Journal, high ups reveal “exciting” plans to move staff to North East Scotland College on the Gallowgate.
US interest rates raised for first time in three years
US interest rates have been raised for the first time in more than three years and could be increased further in a bid to slow rising prices.
Rates were hiked to 3.75%-4% from 3.5%-3.75% by the Federal Reserve in a unanimous decision, despite fierce opposition from President Donald Trump, who had called for rates to be cut.
Fed Chair Kevin Warsh said the move was because "inflation is too high and has been for too long", adding that it was a "sober" and "responsible decision".
