Workers cling to their jobs as ‘great resignation’ goes into reverse
Fresh rounds of lay-offs, concerns about artificial intelligence replacing roles and climbing unemployment are all painting a gloomy picture for any would-be jobseekers.
As the outlook for the UK economy and the labour market grows increasingly dreary, many employees are now keeping a close hold of their current roles in what has been described as “the great stay”.
Even disgruntled staff members who were previously considering a job move are now holding back from searching for new roles amid fears they could be axed in the next round of redundancies.

Jimmy Kimmel taken off air over Charlie Kirk comments
ABC has pulled late-night host Jimmy Kimmel off air indefinitely over comments he made about the shooting of right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk.
"Jimmy Kimmel Live will be pre-empted indefinitely," a spokesperson for the Disney-owned network said in a statement.
Earlier this week, Kimmel said during his show that the "Maga gang" was trying to score political points off Kirk's killing. Kimmel did not comment to the BBC as he emerged shortly after the announcement from the television studio in Los Angeles.
Facebook owner unveils new AI-powered smart glasses
Meta has unveiled a new range of smart glasses powered by its artificial intelligence (AI) tech, as it expands its bet that they will be a must-have accessory for users around the world.
At its annual developers conference "Meta Connect," the social media giant's boss, Mark Zuckerberg, announced an array of devices in partnership with sunglasses brands Ray-Ban and Oakley.
The Meta Ray-Ban Display comes with a full-colour high-resolution screen in one lens where users can conduct video calls and see messages. It also features a 12-megapixel camera.
