Reform UK deputy leader Richard Tice has hit out at plans to send around 600,000 tonnes of rubbish from Scotland down to England to be burned.
The move was revealed this week as Scotland does not have the incinerator capacity to cope with increased demand as a result of the Scottish government's incoming ban on black bin bag waste being sent to landfill.
While new facilities are being built, they will not be ready in time and plans have been drawn up to send rubbish down south until they are.
Tice, The Times reports, said: “Scots would be furious if they were told to take English rubbish.
"The reverse is also true. Scotland should sort its own rubbish. Fair is fair.”
The SNP-introduced ban is being brought in as part of steps towards reaching net zero, but critics have have highlighted the emissions that will be caused by transporting waste south of the border.
