Here are the stories making the business headlines across Scotland and the UK this morning.

Tests off Peterhead pave way for fully electric vessels on offshore wind farms

North-east green energy technology firm Oasis Marine has said it has successfully transferred power to a vessel using its Oasis Power Buoy (OPB).

The milestone was achieved off Peterhead and is expected to pave the way for hybrid and fully electric vessels on offshore wind farms.

According to Deeside-based Oasis Marine, the technology can also help to reduce maritime carbon emissions by expanding vessel charging beyond ports and harbours.

During a series of tests off Peterhead, energy was transferred via the technology to a load bank on the GXS Viking crew transfer vessel. Testing took place either side of Storm Babet so getting successful results was no small feat, given the terrible weather.

Caramac and Animal Bar to be discontinued after more than 60 years

Caramac and Animal Bar are to be discontinued by Nestle after more than 60 years.

The former, a gold-coloured confectionary, first hit the shelves in the UK in 1959 after being rolled out by its original creator, Mackintosh's.

Four years later, in 1963, the Animal Bar - a milk chocolate bar which has two different named animals moulded on the surface - launched.

However, sales of both have "steadily declined" over the past few years, according to Nestle, which bought the brand as part of a takeover in 1998.

Major energy suppliers to pay £10.8m for not meeting smart meter targets

The UK's largest household energy suppliers are to pay a combined penalty of almost £11m for not meeting the industry regulator's 2022 targets for smart meter installations.

Ofgem said that British Gas, OVO, Bulb, E.ON, Scottish Power and SSE would hand £10.8m to its Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Fund (EIVRF) - used to help households struggling to pay their bills.

The watchdog said that, between them, the shortfall in installations stood at more than one million and that the companies' individual decisions to pay a penalty averted the need for an investigation.

"Smart meters are an important part of the transition to a greener, more flexible energy system," Ofgem said in a statement.

John Lewis Christmas advert: Venus flytrap is the star as retailer rings the changes

It's still only November, but the Christmas TV adverts are coming in thick and fast, bringing a sprinkling of festivity to our screens.

Many of this year's ads are fronted by A-list stars, from Michael Bublé and Rick Astley to Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

John Lewis's advert, released on Thursday, tells the tale of a little boy and a Venus flytrap.

"It will be hoping the theme of family values works," said retail expert Catherine Shuttleworth.
