The Robertson Family from Newton of Logierait Pitlochry, topped the sale of commercial cattle at the Thainstone Spectacular when his August 2022 born, 2022 Reserve Champion heifer reached the top price of £5,800.

S&L Bett from Boquhan Farmhouse, Kippen, Stirling went on to purchase the next top priced animal for £5,000, which was 5-month-old, 208kg Kimousin Cross Heifer from Balfour Ballie, Sebay View, Tankerness, Orkney.

The sale witnessed a busy ringside of bidders, resulting in an increase on sale averages from last years Spectacular and a top price of £5,800 achieved.

Julie Sedgewick, from Ricknall Grange Farm, Durham judged the show of commercial cattle at the Thainstone Spectacular on Friday 18th August, where she awarded an 8-month-old 300kg, Limousion Cross Bullock from J S Ballie, Sebay, Tankerness, Orkney, with the Overall Champion position. Sired by Pabo Old Spice and a British Blue Dam, the bullock then went onto sell to the judge for £2,000.

Craig Robertson from Newton of Logierait Pitlochry sold his 12-month-old, 448kg Limousin Cross Heifer at the price of £4,200, selling to Scott Watson on behalf of B T Kitson, 25 South Side, Hutton Rudby.

The Caithness County Show 2023 Overall Champion, a 14-month-old, 442kg Limousin Heifer from Kris Sutherland, The Cottage Achaverole, Dunbeath sold for £4,000 to Scott Watson on behalf of B T Kitson, 25 South Side, Hutton Rudby.

J D Blair from Goosecruives, Drumlithie purchased a 10-month-old 417kg Limousin Cross Heifer from Barry Paterson, Cairndale Croft, Sauchen for £3,200.

Just behind at £3,100 was the 2022 Haltered Heifer Champion and 2022 Haltered Champion, a 10-month-old, 484kg British Blue Cross Heifer from J Munro & Son, Invercharron, Ardgay.

A 4-month-old 224kg Limosuin Cross Heifer from Balfour Ballie, Sebay View, Tankerness, Orkney sold to to Finlay Hunter at West Cairnhill, Culsalmond for £2,700.

W Robertson & Son from Fodderletter Farms, Tomintoul was the Overall Reserve Champion, a 5-month-old 246kg January 2023 born Limousin Heifer sold to the price of £2,500 to J Porter, West Carrabus, Bridgend, Islay. Also from the Robertson family was a 585kg British Blue Cross Heifer which sold for £2,500.

W A Talyor from Woodland, Aboyne purchased a 19-month-old 632kg Limousin Cross Heifer for £2,200 from Willie McLaren, Muirhouses Farm, Kirriemuir.

A 20-month-old 535kg Limousin Cross Heifer from Balfour Ballie, Sebay View, Tankerness, Orkney sold to the price of £2,200 to John D Work from Mains of Dumbreck, Udny.

The event, sponsored by Blackadders, saw heifers average 6.488 per kg or £2,671.05 and bullocks level at 3.713 kg per kilo or £1,750 per head.

In total 30 calves forward sold to the average of £2,333.33.
