Celebrated Aberdeen actress, entertainer and Scots language champion Joyce Falconer takes to the stage in her home city with her one-woman show, Just Joyce, on Friday 30 January.

The evening will see Joyce showcase her musical talents in the beautiful setting of the Art Gallery’s Cowdray Hall, where Joyce last performed as a child.

In the week of Burns Night, Joyce will pay tribute to the national Bard with a show that has delighted audiences both in the UK and overseas. Playing a range of instruments including piano, accordion and ukelele, she’ll also share a selection of her own favourite songs and stories with her customary wit and warmth.

Famed for her love of speaking in her Mither Tongue of Doric, Joyce trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland). She is perhaps best-known for playing fans favourite Roisin McIntyre in BBC Scotland’s much-loved soap opera River City - she is currently filming the final series. She is the recipient of a BAFTA Scotland Best Actress award and has been recognised for her charity work and activism. Aberdeen audiences last saw Joyce live on stage in 2021 when she played Mrs Potty in Aberdeen Performing Arts’ production of Beauty and the Beast at His Majesty’s Theatre.

Speaking of her upcoming performance in Aberdeen, Joyce said: “I'm looking forward to being back in the Cowdray Hall, where I last performed as a child. I hope audiences will enjoy this eclectic variety of material, which will include a chance to sing along."

Just Joyce is part of Cowdray Hall’s centenary programme. The Hall is celebrating its 100th year with a vibrant and varied programme. Upcoming events featuring local folk legend Fiona Kennedy and friends; the world’s premier solo percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie in a BSL-interpreted in-conversation event with broadcaster Fiona Stalker; and an evening with the celebrated Scottish tenor Jamie MacDougall.
