Trinity Centre has submitted a planning application to Aberdeen City Council to install a new escalator at its Guild Street entrance, as part of its continued investment in the city centre.

The Guild Street entrance is one of the busiest pedestrian routes into the upper city centre, used daily by visitors, commuters, and shoppers. The steep level change between Guild Street and Union Street has long been a challenge, and the new escalator will make the journey quicker, easier, and more welcoming.

The project forms part of a wider programme of investment at Trinity Centre, which sits at the natural crossing point between the lower and upper city centre. The importance of improving this connection was also highlighted in the recent Aberdeen Retail & Property Strategy, which identified escalator access at Trinity Centre as a priority for driving footfall across the city.

Kenny Bruce, Centre Manager at Trinity Centre, said: "We've submitted a planning application for a new escalator that will cement the connection between Union Square, Trinity Centre, and Union Street. Improving how people move between the lower and upper city centre has been a priority for us for some time, and we're pleased to be taking it forward.

"It's a significant investment in the city centre, and delivering infrastructure of this scale will need commitment from all parties. We're looking to work with the council and other city centre partners to help deliver it for Aberdeen."

Subject to planning approval, further details on the project timeline will be shared in due course.
