Triple-A technology made available

Bridge of Don-based support charity, Triple A’s (Autism Awareness Association) has received a £1,000 donation from the CALA Homes Community Bursary, which has allowed the group to offer even more activities for members to enjoy during community sessions.

The charity, which is entirely led by autists, is one of Scotland’s largest real-world meets ups of autistic people. Through mentorship sessions and gatherings, the group provides peer support to the autistic community in Aberdeen and across Aberdeenshire.

Thanks to the donation, the group was able to fully upgrade its computer equipment and software, enabling Triple A’s to host new sessions based on member interests such as photography, animation and PC gaming.

By ordering new computer parts using the CALA bursary donation, volunteers in the group also hosted PC building tutorials offering autistic members a hands-on practical opportunity to learn new technological skills.

Julie Brown, project manager at Triple A’s, said: “With this generous donation, we have been able to complete the first stage of our plan to upgrade our computer equipment, opening up even more possibilities for us.

“Through the group sessions and new computers, we can continue to help members gain the confidence, skills, knowledge and experience that they need to lead as independent a life as possible.

“Thanks to this incredibly generous donation from CALA Homes, we are able to provide more opportunities for our members, both new and old, to discover new skills and continue to support our growing community at Triple A’s.”

Mike Naysmith, managing director at CALA Homes North, said: “At CALA, we understand the importance of nurturing communities so to hear about the incredible work that the team at Triple A’s are carrying out is fantastic.

“We are proud to be able to help them to further grow their offering to their members through the equipment they’ve acquired through our community bursary scheme.”

The donation was made as part of the CALA Homes (North) £10,000 Community Bursary scheme, which has helped a total of 10 local groups, charities and organisations in the last year.

Now in its fourth year, CALA’s Community Bursary aims to provide support for a wide range of organisations and projects within the communities in which CALA builds.

In 2019, the Community Bursary scheme awarded more than £55,000 to 63 good causes across Scotland.
