The US and UK are expected to announce a trade deal has been struck later today, reducing the tariffs imposed on British exports to America.
Sir Keir Starmer has been seeking an agreement to lower tariffs since Donald Trump imposed sweeping levies on almost every country on Earth last month.
Now, President Trump appears to have hinted a deal has been reached, and will be announced today.
In a social media post on Wednesday night, he said: "Big News Conference tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M., The Oval Office, concerning a MAJOR TRADE DEAL WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF A BIG, AND HIGHLY RESPECTED, COUNTRY. THE FIRST OF MANY!!!"
The press conference alluded to is at 3pm UK time.
On April 2, Trump announced a 10% base rate global tariff, with the UK also made subject to 25% tax on exports of steel, aluminium and cars to the US.
Representatives of the US and China are also set to meet this week in Switzerland to begin dialog over bringing the trade war to an end.
