US president Donald Trump will fly into Scotland later today ahead of a meeting with prime minister Sir Keir Starmer and a visit to both of his golf resorts.

A major security operation has been steadily ramping up as Trump's visit looms, with Balmedie set to be on lockdown when the president attends his Aberdeenshire golf resort.

Trump will first visit his Turnberry resort before flying to Lossiemouth on Monday and travelling down to Trump International Scotland.

Balmedie beach will be closed to the public from Sunday, with Chinook helicopters and a large US plane having already been spotted at Aberdeen International Airport.

While in the Scotland, the president is expected to meet with Starmer, with AGCC having called on Trump to take the opportunity to persuade Starmer to ditch the disastrous Energy Profits Levy.

A Chamber spokesperson said: "The biggest barrier to investment in the North Sea is a 78% tax rate on profits and perhaps the US President can persuade the Prime Minister to lift that punitive tax when they meet."

He is also expected to meet first minister John Swinney.

Trump will again travel to the UK in September for his second official state visit.

Along with First Lady Melania Trump, he will be hosted by King Charles at Windsor Castle in Berkshire.
