The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called for a windfall tax on banks and other financial institutions which have seen soaring profits in recent years.
Paul Nowak, TUC general secretary, urged Chancellor Rachel Reeves up impose various wealth taxes in her November budget in order to bolster investment in Britain's public services.
Speaking to the BBC, Nowak urged Reeves "not to take anything off the table".

He said: "We need a progressive tax system – a tax on online gaming companies and gambling companies, a tax on windfall profits which the banks and financial institutions have seen over the last couple of years."
Nowak added: "Banks have record profits driven by a high-interest environment.
"We think we can still have a profitable bank sector and ask them to pay their fair share."
In response, the Treasury highlighted previous comments from Reeves, saying the government had "got the balance right" in taxing the better off, including new taxes on private jets and second homes.
