Amazon to launch drone deliveries in the North-east after picking region for UK trial

Amazon has unveiled plans to launch Britain’s first drone delivery service in the North-east of England.

The online retail giant said it would seek permission to launch drone deliveries from its warehouse on the outskirts of Darlington, although it did not say when it hoped to start flights.

Autonomous drone deliveries could mean packages arriving at doors in as little as 15 minutes, as well as ultimately leading to fewer delivery vans on the road.

Hobbycraft owner eyes WH Smith’s 500 high street stores

The owner of Hobbycraft is among a number of potential bidders circling WH Smith’s struggling high street business.

Modella Capital, which acquired the arts and crafts retailer in August, is one of a handful of parties to have held talks with WH Smith and its advisers over a possible sale of the chain of 500 stores.

The private equity firms Alteri and Hilco were also reported to have raised interest after WH Smith drafted in bankers from Greenhill to approach prospective buyers late last year. Sky News first reported the development.

Coca-Cola recalls drinks over safety concerns

Coca-Cola has recalled its drinks in some countries across Europe because they contain "higher levels" of a chemical called chlorate.

The firm said in a statement that the recall was focused on Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. It added just five product lines had been shipped to Britain, and they had already been sold.

Affected products include the Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Tropico and Minute Maid brands, according to the Belgium branch of Coca-Cola's international bottling and distribution operation.

Microsoft in talks to buy TikTok, Trump says

US President Donald Trump has said Microsoft is in discussions to acquire TikTok and that he would like to see a "bidding war" over the sale of the social media app.

When asked by reporters whether the US tech giant was preparing a bid, Trump replied: "I would say yes" - before adding that there was "great interest in TikTok" from several companies.

Both Trump and his predecessor Joe Biden have been trying for years to force TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its US operations on national security grounds.
