New Dons stadium ‘might never happen’ as leading councillor says beach vision was ‘only an idea’
A leading council planning boss says further work to boost Aberdeen Beach – which include a seaside Dons stadium – is unlikely to ever make it off the drawing board.
Lib Dem councillor Martin Greig recently cast fresh doubts over the second phase of the multi-million-pound beach revamp, insisting the plans “were all visionary”.
The whole beachfront scheme – including the potential new Aberdeen FC stadium – could cost £441million.

King prepares to give key speech backing Canada
King Charles III will deliver a significant speech in Canada's parliament later on Tuesday that is expected to offer his support in the country's dispute with US President Donald Trump.
The King and Queen Camilla received a warm welcome when they arrived in Ottawa, on the royal couple's first trip to Canada since the start of their reign.
Soon after arriving, the King, who is Canada's head of state, held a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, recently elected on a wave of anti-Trump public opinion.

Kremlin calls Trump 'emotional' after US president says Putin is 'crazy'
The Kremlin claimed Donald Trump was showing signs of "emotional overload" after he called Vladimir Putin "absolutely crazy" following Moscow's largest aerial assault on Ukraine.
The US president said on Truth Social on Sunday that "something has happened" to Putin, after Russia killed 13 in Ukraine with 367 drones and missiles. "He has gone absolutely crazy," Trump said. "Needlessly killing a lot of people."
Dmitry Peskov, Putin's spokesman, said the comments were "connected to an emotional overload of everyone involved".

Fake discounts on Shein 'breach law', EU says
Fake discounts, pressure selling, and other practices on Chinese fast-fashion website Shein breach the law, the European Union (EU) has said.
The bloc said it has given Shein one month to respond to its findings or face fines based on its sales in the EU countries where it says it has breached the law.
"It's now for Shein to step up, respect the rules and bring its practices fully in line with EU consumer standards," said EU justice commissioner Michael McGrath.

UK fresh food inflation hits 2.4%
The price of steak has increased this month for British households as fresh-food inflation drove up the cost of beef and other produce.
The UK retail industry has warned that rising taxes could push up the price of goods further after food prices climbed for the fourth consecutive month in May, according to data from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and the market research firm NielsenIQ.
Fresh-food inflation has hit 2.4 per cent year-on-year this month, up from 1.8 per cent in April, pushing overall food inflation to 2.8 per cent from 2.6 per cent the month before, with fresh foods the main driver.

Macron ‘slapped by wife Brigitte’ on Vietnam state visit
A brisk gesture by Brigitte Macron towards the face of her husband has set off claims of strife between the French presidential couple, which officials promptly dismissed as online mischief-making.
The supposed slapping of President Macron, which was captured in news footage of the leader’s arrival for a state visit to Vietnam, prompted a social media flurry. It was quickly circulated by RT and other Kremlin-controlled news sites that France has accused of waging hostile propaganda against the president.
The video, from the AP news agency, starts as the door of the presidential plane opens at Hanoi airport on Sunday. Mrs Macron’s hand, identifiable by her red jacket, is seen pushing or striking her husband’s face. He appears startled. The couple walk down the steps for the official welcome and Mrs Macron appears to ignore her husband’s offer of his arm as they descend.

Swinney accuses Reform of racism over Sarwar advert
First Minister John Swinney has accused Reform UK of a "racist attack" on Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar.
Both the SNP and Labour have complained to Facebook's parent company Meta about a Reform advert running on the site ahead of a South Lanarkshire by-election.
The video features text claiming Sarwar "will prioritise the Pakistani community".
