Beach food truck owners’ plea for street lighting after generator theft

Food truck owners at Aberdeen Beach are on edge after one of their own was targeted by thieves who stole a valuable generator.

Danielle Smith of Sweet Toots Cakery alerted other food truck owners to the crime after it was taken on November 1.

Like most businesses along the Esplanade, she uses a generator for power, and has it secured within a plastic container beside her van.

Swinney pledges £25.5m to bring down NHS waits

The Scottish government has pledged £25.5million to help bring down NHS waiting times.

First Minister John Swinney said the money would help deliver more hospital appointments.

It is to be shared by nine health boards - Ayrshire and Arran, Fife, Grampian, Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Highland, Lanarkshire, Lothian, Shetland and Tayside.

OpenAI signs $38bn deal to use Amazon cloud infrastructure

The maker of ChatGPT has agreed a $38billion deal to use Amazon infrastructure, underscoring the enormous investments being made to secure the computer power needed to develop artificial intelligence.

OpenAI will will pay Amazon Web Services for access to infrastructure including hundreds of thousands of graphics processors from Nvidia, the giant AI chips group, to train and run its AI models.

On the news, Amazon shares hit a record high, valuing the company at $2.74trillion in intra-day trading.

Government disappointed by unexpected O2 price rise

The government has asked the media regulator to revisit its rules on phone companies raising their prices in the middle of a contract, after O2 unexpectedly announced it was raising prices by £2.50 a month.

Technology Secretary Liz Kendall said O2's higher than expected price increase is "disappointing given the current pressures on consumers".

Ofcom said it shared the government's concern that "customers who face price rises must be treated fairly by mobile providers".
