Reeves warns of harder choices to come as she hints at tax rises
Rachel Reeves has said the government is facing difficult choices, as she promised she would not take risks with the public finances.
In her speech at Labour's annual party conference in Liverpool, the chancellor pledged to keep "taxes, inflation and interest rates as low as possible".
But hinting at further tax rises in November's Budget, she said the government's choices had been made "harder" by international events and the "long-term damage" done to the economy.

North-east family bakery hits £11.5million turnover and plans to hire more staff
An Aberdeenshire bakery has hit a new milestone, with turnover climbing to £11.5million as demand for its rolls, doughnuts and pies continues to soar.
Murdoch Allan, which was founded in 1991, currently employs 185 people and is looking to employ more as it scales up production to meet customers’ growing appetite for its baked goods.
Its success across supermarkets continues to grow with Aldi selling 150,000 of its morning rolls and 400,000 cakes every week.

Rescue deal saves Claire's but 1,000 jobs remain at risk
The future of fashion accessory chain Claire's has been secured in the UK with the sale of more than half of its stores, but doubts remain over the fate of its remaining shops and jobs.
Modella Capital, which bought the WH Smith High Street stores, has agreed to purchase "substantially most" of Claire's UK, the joint administrators confirmed.
The new deal will save approximately 1,000 jobs and 156 stores, but 145 other stores are not included in the deal.
Trump places 100% tariff on foreign-made films
President Trump has announced that he will place 100% tariffs on foreign-made films in a fresh blow to Britain’s film industry.
“Our moviemaking business has been stolen from the United States of America by other countries, just like stealing ‘candy from a baby’,” Trump posed on Truth Social on Monday.
Trump has previously vowed to restore Hollywood to its “golden age”, lamenting the fall in film production in Los Angeles and blaming generous tax incentives offered by other countries.
