Union Bridge will close to non‑emergency vehicles from Monday March 23 as part of the ongoing Union Street Central streetscape upgrade.

The temporary closure is required to allow essential construction works to progress safely. During this period, only emergency vehicles and refuse collection vehicles will be permitted to cross the bridge.

  • The existing restriction at the Belmont Street junction will remain in place
  • The Back Wynd taxi rank will relocate temporarily to the Little Belmont Street junction
  • Taxi access to Union Street is expected to reopen by early July, subject to progress on paving works

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout, with clearly marked safe routes in place. Access to businesses will continue as normal during trading hours.

Updated delivery arrangements will be in place for businesses on both sides of Union Bridge.

The project is being carried out in stages, and the timetable may change depending on ground conditions encountered.

The Union Street Central works are part of the Council’s £150 million City Centre and Beach Master Plan.
