Three of the most iconic buildings on Union Street will become glittering beacons of Christmas cheer with massive eye-catching animated illuminations for the festive season.
The stunning graphics projected on to the Capitol, Trinity Hall and former RBS building at St Nicholas Square will be unveiled at the Christmas Parade makes its way through the city centre this Sunday (November 16).
The drive to add even more festive sparkle to the Granite City comes from Aberdeen Inspired, with Costa Aberdeen as named sponsored, part of the UK-wide Costa Christmas Catch Up campaign.
Brewed Bright: The Costa Christmas Illumination will see each of the three landmark buildings become a blizzard of Christmas-themed moving images, using the latest in hi-tech projection equipment, so expect snowflakes, stars, and possibly an appearance from Santa.
Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “Aberdeen is already a shining star when it comes to celebrating this special season, but using these instantly recognisable facades as a backdrop for eye-catching festive displays is just the icing on the Christmas cake.
“Of course, the Costa Christmas Illumination wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of Costa Aberdeen and we can’t thank them enough for their sponsorship.
“We know people will be delighted by the displays – created by Luxous, the talented team behind our iconic Aberdeen letters – that will transform Union Street and help everyone get into the Christmas spirit.
“Not only that, they will be a welcome addition to the other festive attractions – the Aberdeen Christmas Village and Curated In The Square festive market – that will attract thousands of people into city centre in the coming weeks.”
Mark Malan, Area Manager North Scotland for Costa, said: “Christmas is all about those little moments that bring us together, and we’re proud to support an event that celebrates just that.
“As a long-standing part of the Aberdeen community, we’re delighted to sponsor this year’s Brewed Bright: The Costa Christmas Illumination and help make the festivities shine even brighter. It’s a wonderful occasion that truly captures the spirit of the season.”
Allan Smith, managing director of Luxous, said: “I always love working alongside Aberdeen Inspired to deliver projects within the city. It’s about helping to build something that inspires people and shows what we can achieve when we work together.
“If we want real change in Aberdeen it has to start from the core. We’ve got so much talent here and the more we back each other, the stronger the city becomes. When local people create for their own city it’s done with pride and heart, and that’s when you see real progress.”
The Costa Christmas Illumination will be lighting up Union Street until Hogmanay.
