On 7 March, over 40 third sector organisations attended the University of Aberdeen volunteering fair organised by the Careers & Employability Service and the student union.
A huge variety were represented including a Bear named Buttony, Bug Life, Cairn Counselling, Clan, Girl-Guiding Scotland, MCR Pathways, Penumbra and Victim Support Aberdeen.
Key contacts sharing details of their Wood Foundation funded summer internship opportunity included Alcohol and Drugs Action, Team Jak, Udny Community Trust and We Too! Voluntary bodies ACVO, AVA and SCVO also featured at the successful event as well as Touch of Love food bank kindly sharing food donations with students.
Employers attended to recruit volunteers/raise awareness as well as viewing the event as a valuable networking opportunity. Employer feedback was very positive with ‘good conversations’ noted, lots of connections made and signed up many students.
Students liked the variety of organisations that attended and found the contacts to be very helpful and friendly.
The University plans to run the next volunteering fair in Elphinstone Hall in February 2025, email employers@abdn.ac.uk to find out more and register your interest.
