Aberdeen’s Vue cinema will close after 21 years next month, leaving nearly 30 staff facing redundancy just weeks after Christmas.

The Press & Journal reports that staff have been informed of plans to close the Shiprow on January 4th.

Vue said: “We can confirm that we will not be extending our lease at our Aberdeen venue beyond January.”

The chain added: “All colleagues in Aberdeen, who are our priority, have been made aware and we are consulting with them accordingly".

The closure will leave Aberdeen with two remaining cinemas – Cineworld Union Square and Cineworld Queens Links.
