The council is reminding everyone to help keep Aberdeen tidy by taking litter home with them, or using litter bins.

Following calls from citizens for increased action against offenders, National Enforcement Solutions (NES) are working alongside city wardens and have been empowered to issue fixed penalty notices (fines) since February.

As at 14 April 2025, National Enforcement Solutions have issued 857 fines, with a total of £39,040 having been paid.

Council co-leader Councillor Christian Allard said: “The support for our wardens is in place to help tackle litter and dog fouling, which no-one wants to see. Our priority is to reduce these incidents, and we are asking people to take their litter home, or use the bins provided, so that they avoid a fine.”

Council co-leader Councillor Ian Yuill added: “We all have a responsibility to look after our environment by picking up after pets and disposing of litter in the right way.

“A clean and tidy community is better for our young people, and helps wildlife to thrive. A small change in behaviour can have a big impact and help avoid a fine at the same time.”

Efforts to reduce littering and dog fouling support our street cleaning teams in ensuring that our communities are kept tidy by reducing litter, which pollutes the environment and can take years to break down.

National Enforcement Solutions officers, along with City Wardens, were out in Seaton Park and on George Street recently to engage with the public and remind them of the importance of disposing of litter and dog waste appropriately. Free dog waste bags and cigarette pouches were handed out to residents who engaged with the teams.
