Aberdeen-based subsea battery specialist Verlume has confirmed job losses as part of a restructuring programme triggered by a downturn in the North Sea market.

The company said international opportunities are growing, but current market conditions closer to home have forced it to review operations.

The firm, headquartered in Dyce, has expanded significantly in recent years, opening offices in Halifax, Canada, and Houston, Texas, and unveiling a new operations facility in Aberdeen in 2022.

That facility doubled Verlume’s capacity and features a 20,000 sq ft base with office, assembly, testing and laboratory space.

However, with activity in the North Sea slowing, Verlume has launched a consultation with "a handful of employees", the company told Energy Voice.

The business said it remains focused on “international growth” and strengthening its overseas presence, with recent partnerships in Canada, Germany and the US.
