Participants are needed to talk part in a new walking programme for adults with arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions, made popular in the US, which is being trialled in the UK for the first time.
Walk with Ease is a six-week community-based walking programme developed in the United States by the Arthritis Foundation for people with arthritis and related musculoskeletal conditions. Designed to effect behaviour change and promote self-efficacy - a persons’ confidence to self-manage the health condition - via a participant guidebook, Walk With Ease is delivered in two different formats: instructor-led group or self-directed.
The programme has been shown to improve physical function and reduce arthritis-related symptoms of pain, stiffness and fatigue.
The University of Aberdeen is currently trialling the programme for people living with arthritis or musculoskeletal conditions in the city through an 18-month feasibility study. Funded by Arthritis Research UK, the university is working with community organisations including Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership, Sport Aberdeen, Aberdeen Sports Village and Paths for All on the initiative.
