The Aberdeen Christmas Village will come alive with the sound of festive music tonight, Thursday, December 20 as the VSA choir puts on a special performance.

Hot on the heels of ‘A Guid Noel,’ a celebration of Christmas music and readings in aid of VSA’s mental health services, Fiona Kennedy and VSA’s adult and children’s choir have combined forces to bring a selection of classic Christmas carols to the festive attraction.

The charity choir will perform a range of seasonal songs on the Community Stage in Marischal Quad at 7pm. They will then be joined by local singing legend and VSA’s honorary president Fiona Kennedy, who will perform alongside guitarist Nils Elders.

Adrian Watson, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “We are delighted to have VSA’s adult and children’s choir and the wonderful Fiona Kennedy join us for a what we are sure will be a memorable performance tonight. Music is a fantastic way to bring people together and events like this really illustrate the community element of the Aberdeen Christmas Village.”

VSA’s honorary president Fiona Kennedy, said: “The VSA choir and I are delighted to be involved at this year’s Christmas Village and to perform to a captive, festive audience on Thursday evening. We have been hard at work rehearsing and performing throughout the festive season to celebrate Christmas and to highlight the fantastic work VSA do in supporting people’s mental wellbeing across the community.

VSA’s director of external relations, Jennifer Mitchell, said: “We are immensely proud to have this unique group of people who have volunteered their time to help spread awareness about VSA and our vital support services.”

“As the city’s largest provider of mental health & wellbeing services VSA provides residential and outreach services which support peoples’ mental, emotional and social wellbeing. VSA’s services are more crucial than ever with around one in three people diagnosed with a mental health condition each year in Scotland. It is with thanks to the incredible support of Fiona, our choirs and the people of Aberdeen we will continue to improve our services and change lives.”

The Aberdeen Christmas Village is open until Monday, December 31 2018.
