Last week Waves Group’s Marine Warranty Surveyors oversaw the completion of Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm, Beatrice. The last of 84 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines was installed on May 14.

Located 13km off the coast of Caithness in the Moray Firth, the Beatrice offshore wind farm is expected to power over 450,000 homes in Scotland. Beatrice is the fourth largest wind farm in the world and has the deepest water depths to have used fixed foundations for any wind farm to date. The jacket foundations, weighing roughly 1000 tonnes each, were installed in water depths of over 56m.

The company supplied Marine Warranty Surveyors services for the whole duration of the project. “Waves are pleased to see the project come to a successful completion ahead of schedule and under budget, after three years of construction - already generating power to homes in Scotland” the company stated.

The offshore wind farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables, holding 40% share, Copenhagen Partners, 35%, and Red Rock Power Limited, 25%. SSE will manage the operations and maintenance of the wind farm from their new base in Wick.

“The successful delivery of such a large-scale project further underscores our Marine Warranty Surveying capabilities within the renewables sector. Also, the Beatrice wind farm becoming fully operational will contribute significantly to the Government’s green initiative” said Waves Group.

The company is working on several large projects such as Triton Knoll (UK), Formosa (Taiwan), and Hornsea One, the world’s largest offshore wind farm. They were also recently awarded the Marine Warranty Surveyor contracts for Mermaid and Seastar (Belgium) offshore wind farm projects.
