On the back of the success of their first Dream Night, the amusement park held another exclusive relaxed evening for children with disabilities alongside their parents and carers.
We Too, Aberdeen’s local charity that empowers parents and carers of children with lifelong, predominately neurodivergent conditions, held a successful event at Codona's Amusement Park in Aberdeen on Monday, October 16th. The event, "Twilight Night," was held at the start of the October school holidays and allowed parents and carers to access the rides and activities at the park within a sensory adapted session, whilst closed to the public.
In line with the October holidays, the evening had a Halloween theme, and parents, carers, and children were invited to "trick or treat," receiving sweets and toys after each ride as many children had never experienced Trick or Treating before. The event was a huge success, with around 150 parents, carers, and children purchasing tickets to attend, raising over £2,000 in the process.
"We were thrilled with the turnout for our Twilight Night event," said Phionna McInnes, Chief Executive at We Too!. "It was wonderful to see so many families come together to enjoy a fun and inclusive evening. The whole night wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Codona’s and I am incredibly grateful for our continued partnership. Codona’s incurred all of the associated costs for the evening, allowing 100% of ticket sales to come directly to We Too! at a time when we desperately need funds to meet the increased demands on the charity.
Furthermore, by Codona’s reaching out to their suppliers, we were completely overwhelmed with their generosity in donating items for the treat stations. Coupled with sweeties donated from Codona’s, their management team and regular customers, every participant’s bag was overflowing with goodies as they left the park. A true testament of community coming together to support our vision”.
Gillian Gallan, General Manager of Codona’s added “This has been an incredible event to work on with the team from We Too!. To see families experiencing the Amusement Park attractions and trick or treating, with some experiencing this for the first time has been very special for the whole team to be a part of. We were delighted to be able to donate exclusive use of the Amusement Park, for both Dream Night and Twilight Night, this year to We Too!, and we are looking forward to the events we have planned for the remainder of the year and 2024.”
Volunteers on the evening included the team from We Too! along with some of the cast and producers from the Aberdeen Student Show, who had selected We Too! as one of their charity partners for their 2023 production "Ayetanic."
The money raised from Twilight Night will go towards supporting We Too!'s programs and services, which include:
- Parent support groups and information events
- One-on-one support for families
- Advocacy and support services for families navigating their ASN journey.
- Social events and activities for children with life long disabilities.
We Too! is a vital resource for families in Aberdeen and North East Scotland, and the success of Twilight Night is a testament to the community's support for the charity.
